HUMILITY – the cure for arrogance
Which will it be? Which am I? Arrogant or humble in my faith walk? How about you?
Here’s the quiz:
- Do I pridefully share my unsolicited testimony with strangers?
- Do I believe my concept of God is the only valid belief and that only those like me are ‘saved’?
- Do I deride other religions?
- Do I believe only those who profess the New Testament ‘road to salvation’ will know an eternity?
- Do I believe Muslims, Jews, Buddhists, Hindi, even Christian sects other than mine are ‘lost’ and will burn in hell?
- Do I believe it is my duty to defend the God which I understand even to the point of warfare and murder?
- Do I believe it is righteous to murder those providing abortion or those receiving abortion knowing by heart the 10 Commandments and “thou shalt not kill”?
- Do I believe my government ought to be governed by Christian principles?
- Do I believe the Judeo-Christian scriptures are infallible and inerrant?
- Do I interpret every verse and passage of those scriptures literally?
- Do I believe non-believers deserve my scorn and derision?
- Would I help a destitute refugee of another creed, faith, or race?
LASTLY
Would I recognize Jesus, the Christ, if He were standing in front of me in the guise of a starving child from Yemen, a 14 year-old Honduran girl pregnant by rape, a young family fleeing persecution in Syria, a ghetto black man from Chicago addicted to drugs, a homeless woman living in the nearby woods?
Would I? Would you? The Christian world celebrates the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus of Nazareth this week. What’s hanging on my personal cross, on yours? Arrogance, maybe? Will we resurrect into the man or woman whom the universal God of all mankind designed us to be?

God himself derides all other religions as abominations. No I do not believe in murdering abortionists, that’s not what Jesus taught. I speak to a fellow believer differently than I would a non-believer. Believers are to sharpen each other. I thought you were a believer so I replied accordingly to your posts. I’m sorry if I offended you by my comments on your posts. I offer the Good News to the lost, yes, those who don’t believe in Jesus are lost as it says in John 3:18, condemned. I have un-saved friends who I care about and I also help the homeless and others in need. I am not judging anyone. I’m sharing the truth of God’s word. I humbly submit that it takes humility to accept the truth that all people are sinners and must be forgiven and that God has said that we must believe in his Son for forgiveness. Not Allah or anyone else. Jesus says we must become like little children in our faith. That is humbling ourselves to the point of dependence and simple trust. There is no room for pride. Please don’t take my confidence in Jesus as pride. I am a sinner saved by grace and thankful for it. Nothing good in me and no deserving of forgiveness. Like all people. We are all in the same boat as far as being unable to redeem ourselves from slavery to sin. I thank God that he loves me and Jesus for dying for me.
John 14:6 Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through
me. 7 If you really know me, you will know[b] my Father as well. From now on, you do know him and have seen him.”
5 “If you love me, keep my commands. 16 And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever— 17 the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be[c] in you.
2 Corinthians 6:14 Do not be yoked together with unbelievers. For what do righteousness and wickedness have in common? Or what fellowship can light have with darkness? 15 What harmony is there between Christ and Belial[b]? Or what does a believer have in common with an unbeliever? 16 What agreement is there between the temple of God and idols? For we are the temple of the living God. As God has said:
“I will live with them
and walk among them,
and I will be their God,
and they will be my people.”[c]
17 Therefore,
“Come out from them
and be separate,
says the Lord.
Touch no unclean thing,

“I will be a Father to you,

Thank you, I am more content and at peace with us (God and me) than I ever have been. Peace to you also. I am glad your faith sustains you. One of my reasons to write what I do is to challenge others to be introspective about the words they profess. 🙏 Namaste – I honor the divine in you.

As a non-religionist, the only comment I can make is that I judge the person by who he/she is, not by their religion, nor skin colour, nor sexual orientation, nor ethnicity. Just by how he/she treats people … that is all that matters to me.

Well said Jill. I agree wholeheartedly. I am frightened for christians today the apologetic movement would answer all those questions without any drop of humility. All how do not believe in their particular sort of Christianity are doomed and well the LGBT community and all other religions or traditions are cast into hell by their teachings. I feel sorry for them as without humility one can never truly understand compassion and the wisdom that comes with it.
