PSALMS 23

A Psalm of David.

1The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.

2He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.

3He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.

4Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.

5Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.

6Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever.

  1. During my first heart attack I kept repeating this over and over while being transported to the ED…I didn’t know I was doing so. The EMT’s made a note of it. It’s funny (not funny ha ha, funny odd) that you mentioned it used to be thought the funeral psalm.

  2. Hi Larry,
Just stumbled on this and wanted to thank you for sharing. Keith Green’s music was a huge influence at the beginning of my Christian journey. I am so thankful to know that anyone has been encouraged by my version and recognize it as not just a psalm to read at funerals, but words of great comfort and promises of a loving Father. ~Melanie
