send in the clowns

In the Stephen Sondheim musical “A Little Night Music”, Desiree reflects on the ironies and disappointments in her love life. The Chorus “Send In The Clowns” refers to the old circus practice of sending the clowns into the ring to distract from a disaster.

Our world leaders today have no solution for the hastening, downward spiral to a disastrous, fiery finale.  They know the answers, they know the way to a continuation of humanity as an intelligent species, but refuse to accomplish the first steps toward such a revolutionary concept: relinquish the power grab, cherish the earth’s resources, share the wealth and, most importantly,  recognize each individual citizen’s rights to pursue life, liberty, and happiness.

Worldly powers foresee the demise of our planet, the answers are evident, and yet, all we get are more clowns to create a distraction.

Years ago when I moved from Pennsylvania to Florida, Homosassa was a sleepy fishing village with just one traffic light. Today, unfortunately, it is a bustling fishing village with three traffic lights and a new WalMart. Being a retired trucker, I've seen the continental United States coast to coast and north to south hundreds of times and don't care to venture out of Florida again. Driving was a great adventure and a great job. We don't get too excited about things around here. Tourists enjoy the river and the manatees. Snowbirds come down to share their northern wisdom and spend their money. I sit on the front porch and watch the world go by.......and write.
