IT’S A GREAT DAY! – rivers of life

cropped-grand-canyon-1.jpg

Did the Colorado River cut through rock creating the Grand Canyon by sheer strength?  Did it happen overnight?  No, of course not.  One of the most awesome land sculptures on earth was created over eons of persistent erosion.  Millions have viewed this spectacular landscape, some have tried to conquer its raw natural power, a few have died failing to match wits with the imposing rock walls and the mighty river flowing through the canyon.

Persistence!  Not strength, not brawn, not physical power.  Our goals in life will be accomplished with rivers of intentional persistence.  Yesterday’s commitments to healthy habits and attitudes must be pursued again today.  There is no room for stagnation in pursuing our goals whether those goals be mental, spiritual or physical.  Our rivers of determination will stop flowing and become dammed up when filled with past baggage and emotional silt.  Muscles and joints which tell us, ‘No, stop,”  must not be entertained with inactivity.  Especially those of us experiencing the ‘golden years’ cannot stop intentional forward motion.

As always, this is a choice to be made every morning upon arising.  Greet the morning with a smile, a ‘thank you’, a brief gratitude list, a hug to your spouse or cat or dog, and a stretch to the dawning day ahead welcoming goodness and strength into the waking hours.  Receive the blessings which flow and the gift of grace to enjoy another 24 hours.  It’s all ours for the asking.  The alternative is to wallow with inaction, suffer the aches and pains, dread the day’s drudgery, look forward to an end to this self-imposed misery.  It’s our choice.

What’s your river going to do today?  Flow bravely and erode just a bit more those walls of stone?  I hope so.  I intend to live life fully in the face of obstacles and mental dams.  If I fall down, I will bounce back up.  If I see someone else fall down, I will help them back up.  We can claim victory when the last breath is drawn.  We can say with conviction, “I defeated you, death, and will continue on into eternity knowing I gave this life my best effort.”

Join me, will you?

O COME, O COME, EMMANUEL

Just another traveler on life’s highway hanging out in the slow lane.  It’s quiet.  It’s peaceful.  Beyond the horizon is rest calling my name.  Green pastures, still waters, my cup overflows.

O come, O branch of Jesse’s stem, unto your own and rescue them! From depths of hell your people save, and give them victory o’er the grave.

O come, O King of nations, bind in one the hearts of all mankind.  Bid all our sad divisions cease and be yourself our King of Peace.

Rejoice!  Rejoice!  Immanuel shall come to you, O Israel.

“Victory o’er the grave?”  Is it possible?  Absolutely!  Ask any addict who has been saved from the hell of his/her addiction, the death sentence of a spiritual abyss, and you will be told,  “Yes, yes, yes!  I have been raised from my personal hell on earth, my living grave, and we, my Higher Power and I, are victorious over death.”

That is what the gift of Immanuel, the spirit of God made incarnate in Jesus of Nazareth, has done for mankind.  This is an inexhaustible gift which can never be used up, discarded, put in the attic, or trashed before next Christmas.  But, it can be repurposed and shared with other hungry, dying souls.  I like sharing gifts.  How about you?

“Where, O death, is your victory?  Where, O death, is your sting?”    1 Corinthians 15:55

O come, O come, Immanuel

DREAMERS

“Imagine”.  Just allow yourself for a minute to imagine a better world.  What would be in your better world?  Hatred? Bigotry? Injustice? Cruelty? Intolerance? Oppression?

No, probably not.  Everyone in your better world would have enough food to eat, clean water to drink, decent shelter, and resources to provide for the family.  The people of that world would not fear their government, their military, or their neighbors.  No one would be a billionaire and everyone would have sufficient finances to live a clean and comfortable life.

In that world the earth and its resources would be cherished and valued.  Fossil fuels would be a relic of the past.  Everybody’s air would be clean, clear, and pure.  Waterways and skyways in this better world are free of human trash.  The elements of nature flourish in their natural state of being.  Animals are not hunted  and killed for sport.

The world’s religions would realize that all faiths have a piece of the God puzzle.  Diversity in worship would be embraced and celebrated by Muslim, Christian, Jewish, Buddhist, Hindu in solidarity with the One called Spirit.  Religious hypocrisy and persecution is non-existent in this better world’s profession of faith.

The world’s richness is shared by all of humanity.  None go without.  Countries do not vie for power or prestige.  There is no reason for war or killing.  Each culture values its heritage, its traditions, and its history, but, none is elevated above the validity of the other.

Individuality is respected and promoted because all humanity understands that each creature is created uniquely within the framework of God’s presence in all, though all, and within all.  There is no separation from God or from each other.  What is done to my brother or sister is also done to every presence on earth and the Oneness of God’s world order.  We live in unity within the Kingdom.

You may say I’m a dreamer, but, I’m not the only one.”  John Lennon

Join us.  We are the dreamers who will save our earth and civilization from the destruction that awaits if humanity does not come to terms with what it has become.  Having succumbed to the will of human ego and self-absorption, the fate of our habitat is spiraling rapidly into a fiery and final demise from which there is no return.

Do not believe the religious soothsayers who claim that scriptures foretell of a restoration and rebuilding after the final destruction and therefore welcome a worldwide catastrophe.  They are dead wrong, because they live in a dead theology.  They are dead.

Join those who live in Oneness, in Spirit, in Truth, in Unity.  The dream is eternal even as the flesh is death.

1 Corinthians 15:55

55 O death where is thy sting? O grave where is thy victory?
